What does everyone else use to clean their Pyr and keep them white?

I have been able to keep him really white, but notice that sometimes he has a yellow tinge, espcially after playing in the mud. Any ideas would be great!!!

Thanks :)

We use E-Groom Crystal white shampoo. You can buy this at Ren's pet suppy or Treasure Coast on-line....

I use White on White by Chris Christensen or Quic Silver- which is a horse shampoo

Plush Puppy. I adore their products. An Australian brand but I think available worldwide www.plushpuppy.com

I use their whitening shampoo for general over all, but also their deep cleansing shampoo for when there is some heavy grime (either spot cleaning or overall - I mix the two shampoos together if I am doing overall)

I love all their other products too, especially the seabreeze oil that I use in a rinse. I find that actually helps stop some of the staining.

I use Plush Puppy shampoo for the buff and Armoni Naturali (Italian) brand for the whitening. This weekend I used Ring 5 whittening shampoo because i was out of Armonie Naturali I can say that Ring 5 is also a very good product.

Yesterday I tried Chris Christensen Clean Start Clarifying Shampoo on a very, very dirty pyr and now I am hooked on this shampoo. My biggest worry when I wash my pyrs are elbows ... it is so hard to get them clean but this shampoo washed the elbow dirty off so easily... next time I will definetly try the white dog shampoo from the same line too.

I have been told by my handler son, Gaelen, that the whitening shampoos damage the coat slightly i.e. make it less resistant to the natural dirt sheding qualities the breed enjoys and more porous for absorbing stains. He uses one of the dishwashing brands (Dawn, Joy or something like that). I can get the name if anyone is interested. I have to admit he does a much better job than we ever did and has campaigned a top winning Pyr special for over six months. This translates into at least a weekly bath. So I felt he knew what he was talking about.
The whitening shampoos initially do work and do whiten, but the dogs then get soiled quicker and it seems to not then get quite as white. The dishwashing shampoo does not have that problem. I am not recommending all dishwashing soaps, but one particular one that I am not sure of the name as I write this.

The name is DAWN I use it too and was initially told about it by a professional groomer I agree the whitening shampoos do damage the coat over time and can even blister the skin if not rinsed out thoroughly

Pam has it right. It is DAWN dishwashing detergent ... works very well ... I would recommend the non-scented version.

Thank you for the information .. I did not knew that. Usually I have used natural whitening shampoos. I don't think that we have Dawn here available.

Some white shampoos tend to open the shaft of the hair more which makes it easier to 'stain' them. Agree they need to be used with a bit of caution. They are ok to use every now and then though but using it too often can make the coat look yellow. When you use it you may need to use something on the dog to repel stains and 'seal' the hairs afterwards - even if you are doing this after the show is finished for example applying some type of leave-on conditioner to the coat (I use a rinse of Plush Puppy Seabreeze Oil which helps a lot). Dawn or something like Sunlight soap can be great for stains.

I am not a show person, but do understand the concerns about whitening products since I had some problems w/ them when I groomed. If you like Chris Christensen's products, or you are interested in trying them, you may want to read this information first to see how it works:

PLEASE, someone correct me if I'm totally wrong w/ all this-- I only groomed for 7 years and never groomed for show (except a couple of Cavalier King Charles) LOL

Thanks, I appreciate everyone taking the time to answer. I have tried lots of things and found that the blue Dawn dishwashing liquid works the best. He is really white after I use it and stays that way, until he finds some more mud, lol. He hasn't had any problems with itching or dry coat either. The blue Dawn seems really watery compared to orange or green Dawn. If you buy some that isn't watery, just water it down. Thanks :)
