The people active in rescue are a tremendous group and many thanks to them for all their hard work!!

Are there any other Pyr foster families on the board? We've had our foster boy for a couple of weeks now. We had some "lack of socialization" issues to work through but he's making steady progress.

I so want to get involved with pyr rescue but so far have only been able to assist with notifications to rescues of pyrs I find in need. Abby is not the best with other females and is VERY territorial. Hopefully when I get my 25 acres and can spread out more I will be able to take in fosters.

Pam - if you have a rescue group in your area just give them a call or stop by one of their meet and greets. There are lots of ways to help and groups are always short of volunteers.

I have been running a resue group for several years now, and would love more help. I never have enough. Problem is that I'm in one place and my potential volunteers are all over. I currently have several dogs in rescue at my home or kennel that need constant work. Two are feral and my puppy is a 4 month old, 73 pound bundle of joy, who needs some manners yesterday. It's very difficult to spend enough time with them to improve their social skills. Nevermind all the paperwork and reports necessary to keep us running. Volunteers are priceless!

Dan & Paula Lane of Bountiful Farms have started an LGD Evaluators group to help rescue evaluate & place their LGD breeds for guardian work or as pets...Now that I have my little farm & successfully working guardians I am looking forward to fostering & evaluating Pyrs!

HMMM don't know I have 2 outstanding guard bitches right now - one is 'reactive' and higher energy and the other is the most quiet laid back Pyr- bombs wouldn't faze her. Put them in a flock and I GUARANTEE nothing will come in the field with the flock. Course might not be a good example as my dogs are pets first but the contrast in personality has nothing to do with their ability or interest in LGD work.

Boy, I wish one of the LGD people would answer your question! How do we get them to notice it?
What strikes me is your inclusion of the words bidability, activity level and destructive tendencies with alertness, and I may be misunderstanding what you are saying, but I thought you were asking if those were typical of an LGD. Am I totally confused here? My understanding is that bidability would not be associated with a good LGD, nor would high activity level or destructiveness. I remember reading somewhere that the puppy that chases the ball is placed in a pet home, not an LGD situation. Can't we get one of the wonderful, experienced LGD people to pick up on your question???

Go ask this question in the LGD group and see what they say
